Rubio's

I'm in San Diego for a very quick trip, and whenever I come back I have to go to Rubio's to get a fish burrito combo. If at all possible we also go to El Indio, especially since it's conveniently close to the airport.

I must say that I have never understood the general local fascination with Rubio's.

Next time you are in town, treat yourself to a visit to Karina's instead.

I haven’t heard of that, I will try to check it out next time. Growing up, everyone went to taco shops, the most famous being Roberto’s, but there were many knock-offs (even naming themselves Aliberto’s or Jolberto’s). The fun is finding the really good ones—when I was adjunct at SDSU, my wife and I found Rancho Villa, a family run place in an old Taco Bell building near our apartment. There is actually good Mexican food in Charlotte, but nothing compares to San Diego.
